The Mirage was the first casino built in the "New Las Vegas" of the late twentieth century. In 1980 Steve Wynn imagined a full-featured resort the likes of which had never been built before. By 1989 his dream became a reality costing over 600 million dollars, making it the most expensive hotel-casino in the world at the time. The success of The Mirage actually changed the perception of Las Vegas and reversed a decline of tourism to the city that had persisted since the 1970's.

With its exploding volcano and Polynesian theme, The Mirage is still a favorite of many to this day despite its age. The Mirage was featured in many popular movies such as Vegas Vacation, Rounders, Ocean's Eleven (2001), Wolf of Wall Street among many others. As with most treasured but dated Vegas properties, some worry that the future of The Mirage is uncertain since the property itself was placed into a real estate land trust in 2015. Although MGM still continues to operate the casino and hotel, one might speculate that the asset value of the property could jeopardize the casino and lead to demolition as many others did on recent years.

The real deal, the last deck available from the original O'Sheas casino!
